Enrique Gay Garcia

Guy García is considered one of the major representatives of Cuban art. He is an invited artist to our Paradox Art Exhibition Art Basel Week 2012

Enrique Guy Garcia (1928) is a sculptor and painter from Miami, Fla. Born in Havana, Cuba. He showed early interest in drawing, enrolling in art school as a teenager in Santiago de Cuba. He attended Havana’s San Alejandro Art Academy and studied painting with Leopoldo Romanach and Domingo Ramos. Years later he went to Mexico DF to study fresco painting. When he returned to Cuba he becomes dissatisfied with the political situation in Cuba and accepts an UNESCO grant to study art in Italy. He has lived in different countries like Italy, Mexico, Canada, Haiti and United States. He lives and works in Miami since the mid 70’s. His abstract expressionist style is displayed in his paintings and sculptures made out of steel and bronze. Guy Garcia’s  work  is part of the permanent collections of The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami, the Museum of Modern Art of Latin America in Washington, D.C., the Miami-Dade Public Library and the Vermont Academy, among others.
