Michael D. Harris

Michael graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a B.F.A. in sculpture and earned a M.F.A. from San Jose State University in California.  During Michael’s college years he focused primarily on creating large-scale, site specific room installations.  During these years he mastered the ability to transform basic construction materials into art, and his installations offered the viewer an enveloping visual experience.  Michael also incorporated drawing into his work using a variety of mediums; which came to enhance and reinforce his sculptural ideas.

After completing school, Michael’s focus turned to using construction material that facilitated the challenges of creating small sculptures that invite the viewer to explore a smaller scale, while creating a monumental experience. His architectural landscapes have been influenced by and are reflective of the geographical and physical environments of his surroundings throughout the years.

Michael’s work has been selected for numerous shows throughout the country and has received several awards including a Purchase Award and Best of Show Awards. Michael’s work was selected to show in Boca Raton Museum of Art’s 60th Annual All Florida Juried Show. He also received the Best Sculpture Award during the ArtBravo! 2011 Show at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale.
